The viking effect, the Rock falls and a language fades.

What do we know about the end of the Ald Clut kingdom? Who ruled over Loch Lomondside when it fell? This episode summarises the known evidence and puts forward a suggestion for what happened afterwards.

We'll also look at the Northern Brittonic language and how comprehensively it died out. Do any traces of it linger on still in the area?

This is the last episode in this series of seven, taking the history of East Loch Lomondside up to the end of the Brittonic period and onto the threshold of a new cultural phase when Gaeldom and the Gaelic language swept into and across the landscape.

There will hopefully be a second podcast series delving into that more recent past, from the 12th century onwards, starting in a few months time. In the meantime thank you for listening and please do reach out if you would like to engage with me about the content of this podcast.
